Professional WETT Inspections

Certified inspections for wood-burning systems to ensure safety and compliance

W.E.T.T. Inspections

W.E.T.T. stand for Wood Energy Technology Transfer Inc. This Canadian organization trains, certifies and regulates professionals in the installation, maintenance and inspection of solid fuel (wood) burning appliances.

Ash Chimney Sweeps can provide Level 2 inspections using the multipage WETT Inc. required and supplied documents. Ash Chimney Sweeps takes these inspections very seriously as they are a legal document, placing liability on the inspector who completes the report. These reports are usually required during a real estate transaction, by the Fire Department after a chimney fire, or for a house insurance policy.

Why and When WETT Inspections Are Required

WETT inspections are often requested by insurance companies, real estate professionals, fire departments, and homeowners who need confirmation that a wood-burning system meets required standards. These inspections verify compliance and identify any issues that may require attention.

You may need a WETT inspection when buying or selling a home, updating or maintaining insurance coverage, responding to an insurer's request, or following a chimney fire. WETT inspections are completed as required rather than on a fixed schedule.

Our Role as a Neutral Third Party

Ash Chimney Sweeps performs WETT inspections as an independent, neutral third party. We do not pass or fail installations. Our role is to inspect accessible areas of the system inside the building and, where permissible, on the roof, and provide a factual, unbiased report.

Upon completion, a detailed written report with digital images is provided for your insurance company, real estate agent, or records.

Residential and Commercial WETT Inspections

The majority of WETT inspections are conducted for residential homes, most often during the buying or selling of a property or upon request from an insurance provider.

In some cases, WETT inspections are also required for commercial properties, such as restaurants with pizza ovens, or following a chimney fire.

Benefits of a WETT Inspection

  • Peace of mind knowing your system has been professionally inspected.

  • Documentation for insurance or real estate transactions.

  • Confirmation of compliance with building and manufacturer codes.
